Penalty Practice
A penalty kick game like a real training session: target hoops hung in the goal, a new set every round, and an AI rival shooting at the same ones. Five rounds each. The top corners pay the most. Most points wins.
Hit the target hoops in the goal. Five rounds against the rival, new targets every round. Most points wins.
How to play penalty practice
It is the drill clubs use in training: hoops hung in the goal on straps, and you try to put the ball through them from the penalty spot. There is no goalkeeper, just you, the targets and a rival. In each round you both shoot at the same set of hoops, then they are taken down and a new set goes up. After five rounds the higher total wins. Level? Sudden death rounds until one of you scores more in a round.
Taking your kick
On a computer: move the mouse to aim at a target. Press and hold the button: your player starts his run-up and the power bar fills. Let go when it is in the green. Arrow keys and the space bar work too.
On a phone or tablet: touch the target you want and hold. Drag to fine-tune your aim while he runs up, and lift your finger when the power is in the green.
How the points work
Tips for a high score
- Green power is the sweet spot. Hit it harder and the ball flies higher and less accurately, so aim a little lower.
- Your aim drifts a little with nerves, more in the later rounds and in sudden death. Wait for it to settle before you press.
- The 100 hoop is tiny and tucked into the top corner. Go for it when you are behind; take the 50 when you are ahead.
- The bullseye doubles any hoop, so a clean shot through the middle of the 25 beats clipping the edge of the 50.
- Hit the crossbar for a bonus 20, even if it bounces out.
- A soft shot drops before it gets there. Keep it in the green.
Easy, Normal or Hard rival
The rival shoots at the same targets as you. An Easy rival is loose with his aim and often settles for the big hoops. A Normal rival picks sensible targets and hits plenty of them. A Hard rival goes for the corners and rarely misses. The game keeps your best score and your win streak.
Questions
Is the penalty kick game free?
Yes. There is nothing to download, no account and nothing to pay: it plays straight away in your browser.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. On a phone or tablet you touch the target you want, hold for power and let go. It works in portrait, and you can play full screen on most devices.
How long does a game take?
About three minutes: five rounds, with a kick each for you and the rival, plus sudden death if you are level.
Why is there no goalkeeper?
This is shooting practice, the way players train their placement: targets in the corners instead of a keeper. It is all about how precisely you can place the ball.
Is there sound?
On a computer you hear the crowd, the whistle, the strike, the hoops and the net, and you can turn it off with the speaker button. On phones and tablets the game plays silently.
