Chelsea won 3–2 away to Fulham at Craven Cottage, London, on 24 August 2026 (Premier League, matchday 1). A Monday night west London derby, two new managers who were once teammates, and a record signing making his debut.
1' Thirty-one seconds. Palmer flicks it through, João Pedro chips Leno. A Fulham clearance is fired into the Chelsea half, Lacroix wins the header and it breaks to Palmer. His first-time flick finds João Pedro sprinting through, and the Brazilian lifts it over Leno. The Alonso era begins before the crowd has settled.
23' King drills it in at the near post — and Sánchez will not enjoy watching that back. Fulham are level. A neat exchange down the right lets King into the box, and his drive beats the goalkeeper at his near post from a shot he should have kept out. Craven Cottage erupts and the questions about Sánchez begin again.
41' Palmer finds Lacroix down the right, and the centre-back cuts it back for Rogers. Palmer slips Lacroix in down the right, of all people, surging up from the back. He tricks his way past Cuenca to the byline and cuts it back for Rogers, who sweeps it in. The record signing has his debut goal four minutes before the break.
HT Half time. Two-one, and it has been a proper derby. Two new managers, three goals, and a first half nobody could look away from. Arbeloa has fifteen minutes to find an answer.
49' João Pedro holds it up, waits, and Palmer prods it through Leno's legs. Four minutes into the half and Chelsea have a third. The striker shields it until Palmer arrives, and the finish goes through the goalkeeper. It is the simplest goal of the night and the best piece of thinking.
54' Castagne shoots, Sánchez parries — onto García's head. The full-back collects it and fires in a low shot, but the goalkeeper pushes it straight onto the head of García, who nods it in on his first Premier League start. Sánchez again does not cover himself in glory.
